Australia won the toss on Day 1 of the Pink ball test in Adelaide and had no hesitation to bat first. After the early fall of Joe Burns at the score of 8, there was no joy for Pakistan in the remaining part of the play on Day 1.

Australia finished Day 1 with massive 302-1 on the board courtesy of brilliant centuries by David Warner and Marnus Labuschagne. Both Warner and Labuschagne hit their second consecutive centuries ensuring that the Pakistani bowlers have no chance apart from the early success they had.

Australia began the Day 2 with Warner on 166* and Labuschagne on 126*. The duo carried on their show before Labuschagne fell prey to Shaheen Afridi the sole wicket-taker from Pakistan at an individual score of 162 ending the 361 stand with Warner for second wicket.

Warner carried on the brilliance and scored a double ton and followed it up with a 250 in the post-lunch session and his first 300 score in test in the post-tea session. Warner also set the record for the highest individual score at Adelaide Oval going past Sir Don Bradman’s record.

The luck was again favoring Warner who was caught off the bowling of Musa Khan (at 226) to find that the debutant has overstepped. Steven Smith who came out to bat at number 4 also reached a personal milestone while breaking a 73-years old record.

Smith when scored the 23rd run of his innings became the fastest in the history of test cricket to reach 7,000 Test runs. Smith achieved the milestone in 126 test innings surpassing the 73- year old record set by England’s Wally Hammond who took 5 innings more than Smith to reach the 7K mark. Smith fell to Afridi on the individual score of 36 becoming his third scalp.

During his innings, Smith also moved past Bradman’s 6,996 Test runs. He is now 11th on the list of all-time highest scorer for Australia in test matches. Former Australian Captain Ricky Pointing tops that list.
