Now Two Wheelers In Delhi Can Apply For VIP Number Plates

Some people got a fascination to put a unique number plate on their vehicles. To complete this fantasy, after a wait of 4 years, two-wheeler owners are now finally eligible to apply for a fancy number plate in Delhi.

Not just this but a person can also retain their old number plate for their new vehicle. The process is simple enough to proceed from the comfort of home.

The Delhi government on Thursday announced the improvements to the Delhi Motor Vehicles Rules of 1993. And now two-wheelers eligible for fancy number plates. All they have to do is take part in the e-auction.

The base price for fancy numbers like ‘0001’ has been set at ₹50,000. While the numbers from 0002 to 0009 are available for registration for ₹30,000. Four-wheeler owners can also apply for these numbers but the cost is way up.

Bidding the golden number 0001, is starts at the minimum reserved price of ₹5 lakh. All the numbers from 0002 to 0009 are available to bid with the base price of ₹3 lakh.

Until Thursday, there were no rules in place that allows two-wheelers to apply for the fancy VIP numbers. Fancy VIP numbers from 0001 to 0100 were so far only available for four-wheelers.

When asked the Transport minister Kailash Gahlot on this, he said “The transport department was missing out on a lot of revenue as the demand for fancy numbers for two-wheelers was huge in Delhi. This is another step towards making the process of getting registration numbers for vehicles transparent and hassle-free.”

Assessing the high interest of bike owners in fancy VIP numbers like 0786, 1111, 9999, 7777 and 1000, the transport department has set a base price of ₹20,000 for these VIP numbers (only for two-wheelers).

But you can even pay less, as another category of numbers such as 0100, 2222, 8888, 6666 and so on will be sold for ₹15,000.

In this new notification by the transport department of Delhi, owners can also keep the number of their old vehicles. The transport department is creating a separate portal for this purpose.

It will allow both the four-wheeler and two-wheeler owners to retain their old number. All they have to do is pay the 10% of the minimum reserve price of the category of number to be retained, or Rs 25,000 (whichever is higher). For two-wheelers, it will be 10% or Rs 2,500.
