442 mm Rain Recorded In Vadodara Killing 6 People, Army May Come For Help

So far, 6 people have been killed in Vadodara city because of the downpour of heavy rainfall. It all started around 8 am yesterday and ended at 8 pm.

Not only this forced the authorities to shut down the airport but it also lead to the cancellation and rescheduling of various trains.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) have already given out the warnings to make people aware about the rainfall. According to the weather department,’Strong winds, speed reaching 40-50 kmph, are likely to prevail over along and off Gujarat-Maharashtra-Goa coasts. Fishermen are advised not to venture into these areas.’

As a precautionary measure, all the schools and colleges are advised to stay closed today. The effect of the rainfall was so serve that within a few hours it reached to the extent that army had to be informed and as per now they are on stand by.

The CM of Vadodara addressed the people, ‘The downpour has stopped in Vadodara. But still, there is heavy rain forecast for other parts of the state. The administration is alert and teams are standing by to tackle the situation.

The tweet by Western Railway read, ‘There was water logging on tracks after heavy rains at Vadodara on 31/7/19. After water has been receded to an extent, train movement has been started by clamping the points at some locations & with caution order ie restricted speed at Vadodara on 1/8/19 (sic).’

How Is The Situation Being Tackled?

Various teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed to help residents move to a safer place in the affected areas.

After conducting a meeting regarding the issue,the CM tweeted about the same in which he mentioned ‘Reached State Emergency Operation Center, Gandhinagar. And held a review meeting with officials on heavy rain situation in Vadodara. Instructed officials to leave no stone unturned to counter any adverse situation.’

As a matter of fact, two Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers have been deployed to guide the local administration.

Due to the swelling lake in Udera village, nearly 200 people have been moved to safe spots from the low-lying areas. Large parts of the city remains affected with power outrage.

“Nearly 1,000 persons have been shifted from low-lying areas in outskirts to safer places,” the collector stated.

The weather department has issued out a warning that several parts of Gujarat, that includes Saurashtra, will receive ‘heavy to very heavy rains’ during the next two days. 22 trains have been cancelled and the airport remains on a shutdown as of now.
