Tough Situation, Good Talk: Read Trump’s Tweet Post Talks With Modi And Khan

US President Donald Trump in telephonic conversations with India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistan’s PM Imran Khan urged the two leaders to “reduce tensions” in the valley prevailing ever since India revoked Article 370 on August 5.

“Spoke to my two good friends, Prime Minister Modi of India, and Prime Minister Khan of Pakistan, regarding Trade, Strategic Partnerships and, most importantly, for India and Pakistan to work towards reducing tensions in Kashmir. A tough situation, but good conversations!,”  read Donald Trump’s tweet.

The revocation of the article 370 which gave “Special Status” to Kashmir has left Pakistan irked for reasons unknown. For the inundated, two weeks ago, India in a historical move divided the state of Jammu and Kashmir into two UTs – Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir. The UT status lets the center have direct control over the territories helping it to pump much-needed developments in the valley.

Days after article 370 was annulled, Mr. Modi indulged in a 30 minutes conversation with Donald Trump. The leaders on the call sought on the importance of terror and violence-free environment and reduction of tension between India and Pakistan.

“The President conveyed the importance of reducing tensions between India and Pakistan and maintaining peace in the region,” the White House said.

Strengthening US-India economic ties through increased trade was also a topic in the conversation.

Days after Imran Khan targeted the Indian government alleging it to be “fascist” and “supremacist”, Donald Trump spoke to him to discuss “the need to reduce tensions and moderate rhetoric with India over the situation in Jammu and Kashmir,” said the White House.

Post the talk, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said Khan told Trump about the budding “humanitarian crisis” in Kashmir and also showed his concern over the “detention” of local leaders in Kashmir.
