In a distressing incident, a major fire broke out at a state-run ONGC plant in Uran, Navi Mumbai, in the wee hours of Tuesday. The fire has consumed the lives of three people, leaving several injured. The company, however, has diverted the gas to another plant, to thwart any further possibility of mishap.
The fire reportedly broke out around 7 AM when fire tenders were rushed to the spot. As per the latest reports, fire- fighting teams have successfully doused off the massive flames once spewing out of the plant.

As per ONGC, the fire broke out in a stormwater drain of the oil and gas processing plant at Uran, 45 km from Mumbai. The company also stated that the fire had no effect on the oil processing capacity of the plant. However, as of now, gas has been diverted to Gujarat’s Hazira plant, some 350 km away.
For the inundated, ONGC, which stands for Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, is India’s largest crude oil and natural gas company. It reportedly contributes to 70% of domestic production.
Further, reports suggested that three people have been killed till now while several have suffered burn injuries. All workers from the plant have been evacuated.

As a precautionary measure, nearby areas within a 1 km range have been barred. Meanwhile, MLA Manohar Bhoir said residents were taken to safer places.
