On Friday, a State of Emergency was declared by the President Of Sri Lanka. Gives the power to security forces to sweep the grounds after hundreds of men tried to break into his house over the worst conditions of the economic crisis.

As demonstrations and protests rise in the nation, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa imposed the authoritarian law which allows the military to arrest suspects and detain them without any trials.

He said, “state of emergency is declared for “protection of public order and the maintenance of supplies and services essential to the life of the community”.

State Of Economic Crisis In Sri Lanka

The Island Country Sri Lanka is suffering from the worst ever economic crisis resulting in extreme shortages of essentials. Sudden rise in prices, long hour power cuts, and other hardships are creating the worst atmosphere the country has ever seen since its Independence from Britain in 1948. In the capital city, Colombo police have levied a night curfew on Friday in western regions.

People protested by holding posters that said, “Time to quit Rajapaksas” and another one said, “No more corruption, go home Gota.”

On Thursday night hundreds of angry people were protesting outside the President’s home and vocalizing slogans to step down. Before police fired tear gas and used water cannons to control the mob they were chatting, “lunatic, lunatic, go home.”

Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said,” Both the president and his wife were at their home when the protests were going on”, to reporters.

The protesters were out of control, they turned violent throwing bricks at authorities and setting buses, police jeeps, and motorcycles on fire.

The protest resulted in causing injury to two protesters, 53 being arrested. And local media also reported that five news photographers were also detained.
