Philippines New Law: Students Have To Plant At Least 10 Tress In Order To Graduate

Trees are important and we all know this. Earth is lacking trees and we also know that. It’s causing climate change in our environment. Summer has just started and today it feels like the hottest day of summer this year. It is 40-degree Celsius after all.

Planting trees is the simplest solution to this problem, but still, we are not planting them. Luckily, someone addressed the problem and decide the right thing. As the Philippines has passed a new landmark law according to which all high school and college students have to plant at least 10 trees if they want to finish school or college.

It will be able to ease our lives from this climate change. This Filipino law gives birth to 175 million new trees every year. If you can do the maths, we will have 525 billion trees in one generation. Isn’t it the change world needs.

Gary Alejano is the representative of The Philippines’ Magdalo Party and also the principal author of this legislation. In an interview, he explained his plan and said, “Every year, the Philippines has over 12 million students graduating from primary school, almost five million students finishing their high school, and nearly 500,000 graduating from college. If we can implement this Filipino law properly, we’ll see 175 million trees planted each year.

How will it work?

The higher education department of the Philippines government is taking care of implementing this bill. They will also ensure student plats tree in order to graduate.

According to the reports broadcasted on CNN’s Philippines news service, a particular area is provided to carry out this operation of planting trees. These trees will be planted inside certain protected areas, such as existing forests, in mangroves, military ranges selected urban areas and abandoned mining sites.

They are not just going to plant any trees, instead, the Philippines government has selected various plant species that are good for each location depending on the topography and the climate of the area. Mostly they are going to plant the indigenous species.

This doesn’t seem like a hard job, then why our country is not doing something like this? We are trying to make our country clean under “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.” But wouldn’t it be better if we make it clean and green at the same time.
