Pak PM Waives Off Passport And Advance Registration Requirements For Pilgrimage To Kartarpur

Taking a positive step ahead the Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan announced that Sikh pilgrimage visiting Kartarpur would no longer be required to have a passport for verification. A valid ID card of the person would be sufficient.

He further announced that pilgrimage would no longer be required to register 10 days in advance for there visit. Also, no fee would be charged from them during the opening day (November 9th) and on the day marking 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak (November 12th).

Khan took on Twitter to make these announcements. The first batch of Sikh pilgrimage comprising of around 1,100 people arrived in Lahore yesterday. Pakistan PM would open the Kartarpur corridor on 9th November two days before the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak.

Amidst brewing bilateral tensions the two sides signed an agreement last week on the Kartarpur Corridor that will allow Indian pilgrims to undertake a visa-free visit to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib.

The agreement allows 5,000 Indian pilgrims to visit the Darbar sahib. The corridor connects Dera Baba Nanak shrine in India’s Punjab with Darbar Sahib at Kartarpur that lies at close proximity to the International border.

Visa-free travel to Indian pilgrimage (of all faiths) and people of Indian origin would be allowed through the corridor. Visitors would be required to pay a fee of $20 (INR 1400 Approx) for the visit.
