The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has shared the pictures of Lander Vikram’s targeted landing site on Thursday quoting that the essential part of Chandrayaan 2 “had a hard landing“. The pictures were captured by NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) spacecraft during its flyby on September 17.

NASA in a statement said that “The Chandrayaan-2 lander, Vikram, attempted a landing Sept. 7 (Sept. 6 in the United States), on a small patch of lunar highland smooth plains between Simpelius N and Manzinus C craters. Vikram had a hard landing“
The space agency further added that the exact location of the spacecraft still needs to be determined while sharing the pictures of the celestial body.
“It was dusk when the landing area was imaged and thus large shadows covered much of the terrain,” said NASA while adding that the Orbiter will again try to capture the images in October when the lighting will be favourable.

Lander Vikram attempted to soft-land on the far side of the moon on September 7.
