Normal life in North India, precisely in the states of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, has hit a road bump amid severe downpours, followed by waterlogging. Patna, the capital of Bihar is among the most rigorously affected. As of now, as many as 80 people have been killed, while a dozen and more reported critically injured. Moreover, homes and hospitals have been flooded with rainwater leading to train cancellations, power cuts and lack of drinking water.
As of now, three teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed in North India to carry out the rescue operations. Due to the overwhelming presence of water, NDRF teams have to take boats to carry out the rescue operations.
Red Alert
India is no alien to flood-like situations evoked due to monsoon rains and late monsoon rains. Similiar scenes of people being stranded cames from the states of Maharastra, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh earlier this month.
The Metrological Department of India has issued a red alert in Patna, indicating “heavy to very heavy rainfall” in the area. The weather authority has predicted heavy rains in Patna till September 30.

In order to evacuate the stranded people, 32 boats have been deployed in the flood-affected regions.
