On Tuesday, the central government said that no UT/state has reported Covid-19 patient’s deaths due to lack of oxygen (LMO) during the second wave. Health Ministry announced it in the form of a written response to a Congress MP KC Venugopal’s question.
Previously, Venugopal had asked whether “it is a fact that a large number of Covid-19 died on hospitals and roads because of acute shortage of oxygen” in the second wave. He had sought a response from the government on the total demand for oxygen.

Moreover, the Congress MP wrote that the government should take steps to ensure that no shortage of oxygen in the country. The experts say that a large number of patients will require oxygen if the third wave of Covid-19 infections hits India.
In response to Venugopal, the Centre said that health is a “state subject”. It is the responsibility of states to report Covid-19 cases to the Union Health Ministry. However, no deaths have been recorded so far during the second wave of Covid-19.
