Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal has announced an attractive scheme of free metro rides for females. Although there are too many things to take off in order to implement this scheme and it seems absolutely impossible.
But soon, all the females of the capital might be able to enjoy the free metro rides with the help of Pink tokens.
So is it true?
Women wanting to avail free Metro rides may be able to do so only by taking pink tokens from Metro stations, transport minister Kailash Gahlot said Thursday.

The government and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) have outlined an initial plan on how this free metro service for women can be put into action. “We are approaching this in the short term and long term. For rolling it out in the next two or three months, and as a short-term plan, the Metro will issue pink tokens at all stations,” said Gahlot.
On condition of anonymity, one of the Delhi Metro officials revealed, that the scheme does not mean a female can just get into the train without a toke or metro card. In order to avail their free ride, they have to go to the ticket counter. Where they will be asked their destination and the ticketing staff will give them a free token.
“Metro fare of all these free metro rides will be paid by the government. AAP government is likely to pay the cost incurred by this scheme beforehand to the DMRC,” the official said.
Other plans to make free metro rides for women a success
Everyone wants free stuff, this means the metro ticket counters have to deal with a big crowd and it raises the concerns of safety. Luckily, the government is willing to deploy civil defence volunteers. Working along with the Metro and CISF staff present at stations to ensure the safety inside the metro.
All this will be available in upcoming months but it will be just a test phase. To see everything works well and the system works. If everything goes well, the government is ready with their long term plans too.
“The long-term plan is to provide pink cards to women. For this, the DMRC will have to add a few more entry/exit automatic fare collection (AFC) gates at stations. The DMRC will also survey all 259 stations in Delhi-NCR and identify those that need extra gates, and other provisions,” the transport minister said.
