Citizen Applying For Citizenship Under CAA Required To Submit Religion Proof

Anyone seeking Indian citizenship under the amendment Citizenship Act will have to prove their religion, government officials have said. The law which grants citizenship to the persecuted no Muslims citizens from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan will be applicable to those who entered India before December 2014.

“The rules are being drafted but to benefit under the CAA one will have to show some proof of their religion. Any government document like school enrolment of children, Aadhaar, etc would enough,” a senior official said on condition of anonymity. The CAA comes into effect from January 10. The officials added that migrants will also have to furnish documents to prove that they entered India before 2015.
