Despite 73rd Independence Day eve and enhanced security in the capital, Delhi metro service will remain unaffected during the entirety of 15th August 2019, reported ANI. However, selected gates at four Delhi Metro violet line stations namely Jama Masjid, Lal Quila, Delhi Gate and ITO will allow human passage during the flag hoisting ceremony at Lal Quila.

“The entry/exit at four stations of Violet Line i.e, Lal Quila, Jama Masjid, Delhi Gate and ITO will be permitted from select entry/exit gates during the ceremony time and some gates will remain closed at these stations owing to security considerations during this period,” read an official statement from Delhi Metro Rail Corporation.
Moreover, to ward off the possibility of vehicular overcrowding, the parking services from 6 am on August 14 (Wednesday) to 2 pm on August 15 (Thursday) at metro stations will not be operational. In addition to these developments, supplementary ticketing counters and staff will be deployed at Jama Masjid and Lal Quila metro stations to facilitate people movement.
“To facilitate people at Lal Quila station on Independence Day, additional ticket counters will be opened at Lal Quila and Jama Masjid Metro stations along with deployment of additional staff for guiding the additional rush after the ceremony,” the statement further read.
Road Services
Furthermore, to facilitate the smooth flow of traffic during Independence Day, Delhi Traffic Police had issued advisory on Sunday. Owing to full-day rehearsals of Independence Day celebration, elaborate security arrangements have been made by Delhi Police. Traffic on as many as six routes have also been either restricted or diverted.
Following roads will be closed for the general public on Independence Day from 5 am to 9 am:
- Netaji Subhash Marg from Delhi Gate to Chatta Rail
- Lothian Road from GPO Delhi to Chatta Rail
- P. Mukherjee Marg from HC Sen Marg to Yamuna Bazar Chowk
- Chandni Chowk Road from Fountain Chowk to Red Fort
- Nishad Raj Marg from Ring Road to Netaji Subash Marg
- Esplanade Road and its Link Road to Netaji Subash Marg
Buses ordinarily terminating at Red Fort, Jama Masjid and Delhi main railway station will be curtailed or diverted.
