48 Hour ‘Bharat Bandh’ Continued For Second Day

The 48 hour Bharat Bandh called by the Central Trade Unions with a vision to protest against the economic policies of the government continued for the second day. The protest has affected many states and many public services are disrupted. The call for a nationwide strike was given by the trade unions for March 28 and March 29.

Demands

Trade unions are against the economic policies of the government and demands to:

  • Revoke the labour codes.
  • Cease any form of privatisation.
  • Stop the execution of the National Monetisation Pipeline (NMP).
  • Increase the wages of MGNREGA employees.
  • Convert the employees into regular categories who are working on a contractual basis.

Speaking to ANI, Baidya stated that “Air India to Airports, everything is being privatised. What are the meaning of Parliament, MPs, and Ministers when the government will not do anything for the public?… The trade union strike was very necessary for common people. We are supporting the strike. As long as BJP will keep pushing its own free will, we will keep protesting

Major Impact Of Two Days Bharat Bandh:

  • Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Kerala, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and other states are facing a partial hit in transport and banking services.
  • Kerala Government was forced to issue orders to the government employees stopping them from leaving their duties to protest.
  • In southern states the streets were empty, no transportation services were in effect. KSRTC buses, taxis, autos, and private transportation services were nowhere to find on the streets.
  • A strike in Bengal results in blocking the trains and demonstrations of protest on the streets. The Bengal government was criticised for not supporting the strike.
  • Mamata Banerjee asked police to file FIRs when she was on her four-day tour to North Bengal, as the government buses were raided by the strike supporters, said police.
