3rd Firing In 4 Days At Jamia Millia Islamia University Amid CAA Protests

Days after an 11th class boy open fired near Jamia Milia Islamia injuring one, two similiar incidents have happened in the last four days. On Sunday, in south Delhi, two miscreants arrived in a scooter and fired at Gate No. 5. No one was reported injured in the incident.

Protesters, who had gathered at the gate to protest against the Amended Citizenship Act, told the police that the shot was fired in the air – in what looks like an attempt to scare the protesters. For the unknown, the place were the firing took place is only 2-km away from Shaheen Bagh.

“Statements have been recorded. On their basis, an FIR has been registered. A team is going to the spot, it will collect CCTV footage from Gate No.5 and 7. Further details which come out, will be included (in FIR). Action will be taken,” senior police officer Jagdish Yadav said.

The incident on Sunday came a day after a man fired in the air standing near police barricades put up at Shaheen Bagh on Saturday. He was caught by the police.

The shooter on Saturday was also heard saying: “Humare desh mein sirf Hinduon ki chalegi aur kisi ki nahi (in our country only Hindus will prevail).”

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal commending the incident criticised Home Minister Amit Shah over miscreants shooting in broad daylight.

“What have you done to our Delhi, Amit Shah ji? Bullets are being fired in broad daylight… Law and order is being criticised constantly. Elections will come and go, politics will keep happening, but for the sake of the people of Delhi, please focus on fixing law and order,” he tweeted.
